Position Goals and Objectives:

Raise the profile and broaden awareness of Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina

Objectives:

  • Increase coverage by media throughout chapter region
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key sympathetic media
  • Identify additional community events to have MAW presence
  • Ensure positive image through proactive approach and consistent messaging
  • Develop and implement plan to increase followers and engagement on social media space
  • Create mission driven videos to communicate our story and need for support
  • Manage special event and mission publicity and marketing initiatives in order to gain public attention, support and activation  through the media
  • Work with media to build telethons, radiothons, cause marketing and other campaigns to raise awareness and develop significant fundraising campaigns 

Develop and implement Communication Plan

Objectives:

  • Launch and oversee year-round communication vehicles for target audiences: i.e. volunteers, external events, donors, boards, corporate and individual donors
  • Produce 2 electronic donor newsletters per year (Spring and late Fall)
  • Prepare and publish monthly online chapter-wide newsletter
  • Develop and implement all resources for online giving
  • Ensure brand compliance and consistent messaging in all communications for all audiences
  • Identify and develop additional means for touch points for various audiences
  • Create and communicate to staff Crisis Communication Plan
  • Respond to information queries from media and the general public 
  • Write interesting and effective press releases, prepare information for media kits
  • Manage communication and marketing budget

Provide marketing collateral in support of elevating outright and in-kind donor support

Objectives:

  • Create and/or update collateral for development team to ensure brand compliance and consistency: sponsorship opportunities; fund a wish; individual giving, planned giving opportunities
  • Evaluate and implement cause related marketing programs
  • Create strategy (with Development team) and facilitate segmented direct mail pieces to various audiences throughout the year
  • Provide collateral specific to event needs

Communicate, train and ensure brand standards

Objectives:

  • Become an expert in MAE Brand Standards, and educate MAW staff with branding presentations and updates throughout the year
  • Review brand compliance of all collateral and update as needed, including ones for wish families and volunteers
  • Work with development team to ensure Brand standards are adhered to for Internal and External event signage, give-a-ways and media opportunities

Increase online traffic and donations

Objectives:

  • Develop and maintain chapter and fundraising websites
  • Create event websites to encourage online fundraising and activation
  • Ensure timeliness of new posts on social media and maintain brand compliance
  • Work with development team to identify and create more intuitive means to donate online
  • Ensure that all collateral is driving traffic to website

Increase volunteer input in PR and marketing efforts

Objectives:

  • Identify and invite members to PR/Marketing committee from a range of disciplines throughout the chapter’s 51 counties
  • Build and activate PR/Marketing committee
  • Set direction of PR/Marketing committee based on chapter goals and needs
  • Act as staff liaison
  • Work committee for successful awareness and media coverage for region specific activities

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA in journalism, public relations, marketing or communications preferred
  • Ability to work weekend and evening events/functions as required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

Director of Development

Job Description:
Under the direction of the CEO this position is responsible for all streams of fundraising within the Charlotte Metro Region of the chapter's 51 county territory including special events, major gift and individual fundraising, corporate gifts, foundation grants, planned giving, direct mail, board development and annual campaigns.

Core Responsibilities: Responsible for an overall strategic plan for an integrated campaign model that supports the short and long term goals of the organization. The position is responsible for developing a plan, breaking it into its constituent parts, assigning responsibility, executing components and motivating staff and volunteers to reach their individual and group goals. Must be able to manage and execute multiple campaigns and initiatives simultaneously.

ACTIVITIES:

Strategic Planning: Together with CEO, Director of Finance and Operations and Board of Directors, participate in the organization's strategic planning process to ensure integration of fundraising, awareness and philanthropy.

Leadership & Management: Foster and support a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Supervise fundraising and communications staff. Ensure sound administrative and management policies and procedures to support fundraising functions. Recruit, train and support staff, fostering professionalism and productivity.

Donor Research: Develop a list of prospective donors by identifying individuals, corporations and foundations with capacity and propensity to give.

Relationship Building: Initiate and strengthen relationships with key constituents through systematic cultivation.

Fundraising: Design and implement short and long term fundraising plans and budgets to support strategic goals.

Message & Marketing: Coordinate with all constituents, including CEO, Program Services and Chapter-wide Development Team to craft the message for all campaigns and solicitations.

Volunteers & Community Involvement: Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers and community groups.

Goals, Metrics & Evaluation: Conduct ongoing performance analysis of fundraising efforts, using appropriate standards, in order to identify opportunities, set priorities, resolve problems and inform future planning.

Ethics & Accountability: Create, follow and train others to follow appropriate gift acceptance policies that reflect legal and ethical standards.

Staff Management: Responsible for the goals and activities of fundraising staff focused on Charlotte Metro region. Must engage and direct the fundraising activities of senior staff, such as the CEO and Board of Directors, as needed, to assure the most effective methods building relationships and stewardship.

Records Management: Responsible for directing appropriate data entry, utilizing Raiser's Edge, regarding all prospect research, family relationships, community relationships, prospect visits and phone calls, invitations, Board and volunteer responsibilities and other items of note that could be helpful in fundraising.
